HEAVY TRASH COLLECTION SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 9

 

On Saturday, April 9, the City of Southside Place will provide heavy trash pick-up for residents in the city.  Household hazardous collection will also take place.  Pick-up begins at 8 A.M.

 

REMEMBER TO REGISTER YOUR DOG WITH CITY HALL FOR NEW TAGS.  COST IS $ 5.00  Eighteen identification tags have been distributed.  PLEASE HAVE YOUR DOG ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES WHEN WALKING. 

 

 

PLEASE CONTACT CITY HALL WITH RESIDENTIAL STREET LIGHT OUTAGES.  MOST LIGHTS CAN BE REPAIRED WITHIN A WEEK EXCEPT THOSE NEEDING MORE EXTENSIVE REPAIR. 

 

 

 

PROPERTY TAX BILLS DELINQUENT NOTICE

 

Property tax payments were due by January 31st.  Monthly penalty and interest charges will be added to unpaid bills.  "Homestead Exemptions Not Available" are printed on all bills.

 

MAY 14 ELECTION AT CITY HALL  

 

The City of Southside Place will be holding an election for Mayor, Council Position # 1, and Council Position # 3.  Polls will be open from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 14 at Town Center.  Early voting will be conducted at city hall from May 2 - May 10.

 

MULCH DELIVERY TO RESIDENTS

 

Rocky Gravel and several city employees delivered over ninety bags of holiday mulch this year.  During this ninth year of delivery, some 160 trees were recycled.  Thank you for participating.

 

Sanitation Collection Day for Good Friday Schedule - All residential streets will be collected on Monday, April 25.

 

 

Please place paint or other household hazardous items on the residential curb during the April 9 collection day.

 

 

WATER/WASTEWATER RATE INCREASE TAKES EFFECT WITH APRIL, 2011 BILLING

 

On February 10, 2009, city council approved a five year water/wastewater plan and recommendation report based upon a cost of service and rate design study by Water Resources Management.  Each year, the City of Houston increases surface water charges for Southside Place and other municipalities as a result of their own rate study.  Southside Place is required to purchase 80% of our annual water from Houston.  All residential, commercial, and industrial customer rates will increase.  Residential water rates will increase from $ 4.78 to $ 4.87 per thousand.  Residential wastewater rates will increase from $ 4.48 to $ 4.51 per thousand.  Winter averaging will be used for wastewater rates.  Commercial water rates will increase from $ 3.95 per to $ 4.03 per thousand.  Commercial wastewater rates will increase from $ 4.65 to $ 4.66 per thousand.        

 

WATER PLANT GENERATOR GRANT STATUS- Electricity Outages in Southside Place

 

During the freeze warnings in early February, rolling blackouts were observed in Southside Place when CenterPoint Energy implemented systematic outages for short periods of time.  The city's water pressure system and pump production suffered also.  Construction of an emergency generator in the next few months will eliminate such water pressure problems in the future. Some $ 228,000 of federal grant funding was awarded to the city.

NEW CLUBHOUSE KEY POLICY

Due to recent vandalism and unauthorized entry into the building, keys for clubhouse usage are distributed at Town Center.   

A reward of $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the person or persons involved in the recent fire calls to the park clubhouse.

 

Poor Farm Ditch Reconstruction February Report

 

City of Southside Place elected officials and staff met with Harris County Flood Control District representatives on January 25 to discuss future reconstruction of Poor Farm Ditch.  The Southside Place Preferred option is being closely reviewed and analyzed by the Flood Control District.  Engineering, preliminary costs, and drafts of interlocal agreements between the entities will be discussed in greater detail in late February.
